I though this site was very cool looking and VERY informational. I actually love the Drones and the Review they wrote on them was great.

i was disappointed to see that you only have reviews of Brandtson's older albums....why don't you have a review of brandtson's new album? I saw the new video and although it's quite a different sound I was (perhaps) strangely attracted to it. I like them and would hate to see them suddenly excluded or ignored. Can someone review the album? I'd really like to hear 30music opinions. Thanks!

I love/hate your News Junkie. Can someone, anyone explain to me how "Goods" is the best song of the last 6 years? No, I didn't think so. That aside it is a great song and the deconstruction was complete and totally unnecessary. It's a lovely tune and all but with that kind of all encompassing *love* how does one fail to mention Jonathan Yi's video for said song? HUH, DAN? HOW? Granted Yi is a one trick pony but that one trick works so divinely for "Goods" that it's fucking criminal not to mention it. It's akin to saying "Thriller" was the best song of the 80s and pretending there was a culture-fucking-changing video to accompanying it!

I've alerted the proper authorities. Let justice...commence? Or something. damnit.

P.S. Can all 30 writers please use the word "fiend" more?

P.P.S. joe from michigan > BIG UNDERWEAR

-30-:
I would have mentioned Yi's lovely video but for two things. First, I thought 856 words might be more than enough on the tune. And number 2, that might not even be the best video for the song, lovely as it is. Check out the dance video on MoS' site, it's pretty damn fiendable as well. It's a tossup, honestly. So there's your best shot at "Justice", K.

Loved Luther's article on getting old (though at 29 he should worry). Listened to the Alanis song as mentioned in the article - it's beyond bad - I can't choose between the lines about "being emotionally available and supportive and nurturing" or the part on the lines of " you were the best platform from which to jump beyond myself" - truly awful - Pete (40 something!!!)

This web site is pretty tits, but i was more than a bit mistified to not fine the Kings of Leon on your top 30 albums of the year. The Kings came back from thier dirty ass southern rock masterpiece known as "Youth and Young Manhood" and you know what they did? they delivered the goods once again, (tho this time a little less raw, but equally as rock'en in a more polished manor). This chalks yet another start to finish quality album up on the board, and I recommend everyone check em out.

You were pretty far off the mark on the Tapes n Tapes review. Given the other shit out there, to claim that the Loon is a weak album sandwiched by two great tracks is ridiculous! Every song on there is tops.

It would be pretty cool to look through the reviews by what they got reviewed out of 10. or if you just had the review next to the album name. you could also do it with the fan review numbers.

what a dashingly handsome editor in chief you have, 30music.com! and my does he ever love to press that feeble snooze button many-a-time each morn. only, of course, because he stays up quite past his bedtime editing and auditing. (more so editing. not much auditing. (perhaps a bit of “david-letterman-ing”, eh?)) all for you, 30music.com, all for you.

boo on shaw the caw for not supporting you in your wonderfulness.

how dare you have an opinion about a band with superfluous hype! i am ashamed, 30music.com, if that is indeed your real name. and to affix some sort of shambling narrative to a review of the new pornographers "twin cinema" while still being able to accurately describe one's difficulties in listening to it, i had to believe i was reading an ACTUAL REVIEW, and not some glorified press kit from some sharp, shovel like appartatus.

What's the deal with the soul caliber video hosted from "streetwise.com" playing on your site?

Really annoying embedded blasted out my speakers.

-30-:
Sorry about that. We have no idea what the deal is at this moment. We'll get it taken care of as soon as possible.

I enjoy reading the delightful reviews by Josh Bledsoe. The British Sea Power review was simply brilliant! It's good, to the point, and hilarious.

Whoever wrote that Makers review is obviously clueless about the band. It's a great rock album - what more do you want? I work at a record store and everytime I play my promo copy, people want to buy the thing. This critic doesn't care for their diversity? I can only blame his stupidity on the "uppity" factor - it's okay for The Beatles or Elvis Costello, but how dare some funky rock band on Kill Rock Stars try it. Does this critic even like rock 'n roll? Should he even be given a rock CD to review? Let me guess, he's some 23-year-old emo kid who worships Isaac Brock, am I right? I'm mainly annoyed by this guys weak accusation that the Makers are derivative. Who isn't derivative nowadays? Am I missing out on some wholly original form of rock music somewhere? I don't think so. Most "cutting edge" music nowadays sounds an awful lot
like the 1980's to me. The current indie-mentality is stifling. Indie-rock is just as derivative as anything (maybe more) but it just happens to be the right kind of derivative. I suppose aping Gang of Four or Devo is perfectly acceptable right now, and even regarded as progressive, but aping anything from the 60's or 70's (or certain 'wrong' bands from the 80's) just isn't in vogue at the moment, and therefore seen as derivative. Sounding like Mick Jagger isn't cool, but sounding like the Pet Shop Boys is radically awesome? Give me a break. One year from now it'll be something else - Huey Lewis maybe. Good music is good music, but indie-brats like this critic are too pretentious and anal-retentive to let the music speak for itself. Even he admits the band rocks out with passion, and yet he refuses himself the pleasure. Too much thinking, not even listening. He needs to get laid or something. Maybe if he stopped listening to wimpy indie rock, he might.

The review on David Fridlund - Amaterasu... The form:
Nice for a teenage style magazine.
The content:
I have read a lot of Swedish reviews since I was an exchange student there for a year and what I discovred was how mean people were to one and other over there - especially those with the power to persuade people into beliving ugly metafors.
David Fridlund IS A GREAT SONGWRITER! Not at all like the plain and pretentious Oberst nor the boring moaning Folds. Give yourself a break and LISTEN. Reconsider the album and at least give it a 7!!!
Sandy from Seattle:

Go back to school Daniel Cook, you little indie-rock twerp. Your review of The Makers new CD "Everybody Rise!" was boring and lacking insight. Your unimaginative and trite references not only prove you have a limited knowledge of music, but that you also know nothing about the band you're reviewing. The Makers are one of the greatest rock 'n roll bands in the world, and they've only gotten better through the years. This is a brilliant rock album created by a brilliant group of musicians, but you simply lack the werewithal to understand it. You should really listen to more music before you spew your ignorant opinions on-line.

I was really surprised to read the review of Teri Falini. I saw her perform with her band at a record store in Concord and bought their CD. What is the reviewer talking about? Did he listen to the CD? I am in highschool and a lot of my friends listen to her music also and love it. Maybe the reviewer is out of touch with what younger people like.

Teri F alini - Sun Under Me

Dear Joel,
You should listen to the album 5 or 6 more times. Then enroll in a course on non-fiction writing. Then punch a clock for a few years to gain life experience. Then scam free albums from your day job. Then consider writing for a jerkwater music website. Then think better of it and slink off into the night.
Crystal Miranda from Chattanooga:

Wow- when I saw your review I had to blink- you were reviewing Teri Falini? Did you actually listen to the music? I discovered Teri's music on MySpace.com a few months ago- I have many college friends who love her music. Her CD is in heavy rotation here on WAWL, and it doesn't surprise me. I think your review was really baseless. She's ultra-talented and original, as her pocketful of fans here will tell you!

Great review on The Lassie Foundation! Your review pushed me to finally buy the album and it is everything you said it was. Thanks for the dead-on review! BTW Like the new site! Looks great!!

i think your review of the kidcrash isnt very good...i think they are actually a very good band and im a big indie music fan...i love bands like chinup chinup and minus the bear and the kidcrash highyl appealed to me...therefore i think it would appeal to a lot of indie/emo rockers

this is to graham silnicki who destroyed runner and the thermodynamics
how dare you! i think the songs rock!

i and many other really dig this first effort by these guys and your malicious review is not appreciated

of course then seeing your top album of the year is death from above 1979 it all made sense - you have no tast what-so -ever

nice review of luke temple's ep! i grew up with the young man and i can say he is one of the most creative and prolific artists i have known ( he is equally talented as a painter)... there are gems from his early work that will never get pressed (sadly) but his evolution and growth as a songwriter is astounding and promises an auspicious future. oh, and i think he'll stay away from the knife drawer...

(check out the full length when it's released... you won't be dissapointed)
